Outpost culture

We work extremely hard and expect others to do the same. This is not a place for coasting or minimal effort.

Manifesto

Good culture makes you feel comfortable enough to respectfully speak your mind.

Bad culture makes you worry you'll be judged for doing so.

Good cultures know that ambition requires sacrifice.

Bad cultures treat comfort as the goal.

Good culture allows you to ask for more responsibility, and help others in adjacent teams.

Bad culture makes you navigate layers of communication to avoid stepping on toes before taking action.

Good culture means your leader explains their decisions, the company direction, and how teams interact.

Bad culture is where you don't know why you're building a product, or how a decision is made.

Good cultures reward based on merit.

Bad cultures reward those speaking the loudest.

Good cultures have meetings around action, with specific follow ups.

Bad cultures have meetings around who does what and when.

Good cultures mean acknowledging mistakes, and providing reasons or resolutions.

Bad culture means avoiding responsibility.

Good culture means management cares about their employees, their skills, and career.

Bad cultures don't care about your learning, they just want productivity.

Good culture means disagreements are resolved with everyone in the room.

Bad cultures encourage side talk and promoting individual agendas.

Good cultures recognise that the human brain plays tricks on you, so they seek truth at all times.

Bad cultures rely on traditional narratives.

Good culture acknowledges that having minimum processes or written documentation eases communication.

Bad culture relies on 1:1 communication silos.

Good cultures recognise that being a leader includes a degree of empathy and strategic patience.

Bad cultures promote ruthless output and a lack of care.

Good culture acknowledges that you have to work hard to achieve outstanding results.

Bad cultures hide behind being a family and achieve mediocracy.

Good cultures recognise you won't like everyone, but you can get along with everyone.

Bad cultures trade execution for popularity.

There is an enormous amount of work ahead, but the opportunity is equally vast. We work hard, because we know that the harder we work the luckier we get. That's why we count every day, because every day counts.

We work hard - really hard.

Success at Outpost takes intensity, focus, and the willingness to make short-term sacrifices for long-term outcomes. This isn't a place for people seeking work life balance over ambition.

We're building something meaningful, and that means prioritising it - day in, day out.
